Controller
Joan recently joined MSR Design as the firm’s controller. Born and raised in Superior, Wisconsin, she moved to Tucson, Arizona, after college. Joan began her career working for a small family-owned business and progressed to a controller role with subsequent companies. After enjoying the desert for several years, she traded sunscreen for the rain of the Pacific Northwest where she worked as a controller for a small architecture firm in Portland, Oregon. Returning to the Upper Midwest, Joan moved to Minneapolis in 2025 to be near family members who live in the area. Joan and her sidekicks Steve and Olive are excited to be part of MSR Design.
What or who inspires you and why?
Billie Jean King—whom I was lucky enough to meet. Her work advocating for gender equality in sports inspired me to start a program with a friend to teach tennis and swimming to kids with special needs.
