This renovation of the historic library building on Whidbey Island responds to a range of needs identified through public and staff engagement, and lays the foundation for the future of library services in the community. The interior upgrades include a new meeting room, enclosed children’s area, study rooms, and a dedicated staff break room. By repurposing the underutilized lower-level storage area and introducing a new floor opening, the design connects the main and lower levels with a new stair and wheelchair lift, enhancing circulation and accessibility. A central clerestory dormer brings natural daylight into the heart of the building and offers views to the outdoors, creating a more inviting atmosphere. Additional features include a variety of seating options to support diverse patron needs, and an interactive children’s structure—The Wave—that offers hands-on learning opportunities
