Norman Public Library East

The first of two new libraries for the Pioneer Library System, the Norman East branch represents a new community experience inspired by Oklahoma elements.

Positioned in a previously underserved area of the community, the branch library provides access to traditional as well as digital resources. The design is highly flexible, providing space for collaborative learning, new education models, digital literacy, and information sharing.

The design reflects the area’s iron rich topography, weather phenomena, and prairie. The structure was developed with the long horizon in mind and is oriented to mitigate solar gain in the summer. Clerestory windows bring in daylight and direct light on the entry sequence leading to the centerpiece reading room with a 20-mile view to the horizon.
