Saint Anthony Main (Phase IV)

    Previous Next
    • Saint Anthony Main brought life back to Minneapolis’ original main street
    • Overview

This project combines the restoration of four buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places with new in-fill and connections to create a unique retail center along Minneapolis’ historic Main Street overlooking the Mississippi River.

The result is an urban assemblage of existing romantic, medieval elements and modern structure and services. The waterfront’s functionality and directness become an enduring foil to the slick shop fronts and their merchandise. Saint Anthony Main set a precedent for reimaging the riverfront, and the neighborhood continues to evolve with a growing eclectic mix of housing, retail, restaurants, and businesses.

    • in the early 1900s, the area was home to service companies and light manufacturing
    • the buildings were eventually left largely abandoned and decaying
    • the area now houses a theater and restaurants with popular outdoor seating areas
