Oakdale Discovery Center

    Previous Next
    • the center is designed as a series of smaller, connected buildings
    • Overview

This new community nature center focuses on environmental design and the education of ecological resources.

Having outgrown its current nature center building, the City of Oakdale commissioned MSR and Gen-Con Construction to design and build a new green building. The new nature center houses two classrooms with an operable partition between them, providing the flexibility to create one large classroom or several multifunctional spaces. The building also includes an exhibition area, office, and kitchen. Large expanses of glass provide ample views of the site’s natural setting, and a bridge stretching out from the building literally places visitors among the trees.

    • a bridge extends from inside to out, connecting visitors with nature
    • the center also includes an outdoor amphitheater
    • the bridge and exhibits area are prominently located adjacent to the entry
