    • Overview

This project is the second of three new regional libraries to be added to the Louisville Free Public Library system as part of the facilities master plan, prepared by MSR. The building’s location on the site takes advantage of natural daylight and views into the surrounding tree groves. Window placement enables daylight to reach deep into the library. The program features a special technology-driven classroom, highly flexible reading room, and a college corner in the teens’ area. Registered for LEED Gold certification, the new building features numerous sustainable strategies. A wooded parking area with stormwater management surfaces extends the library experience outdoors, including areas for reading and gathering. Energy-saving measures include minimizing heating and cooling loads through passive design strategies and a robust building envelope, incorporating efficient mechanical and electrical systems, and implementing renewable energy sources.
