    • Overview

This new headquarters is inspired by the concept of a yard containing many buildings that function in the spirit of collective production.

The complex incorporates modified prefabricated metal structures, silos, and houses, flexibly designed to accommodate changing uses and future expansion. Ten years after the Design Yard opened its doors, Herman Miller recognized the need for new office space for its corporate leaders and their support teams. They again hired MSR to create a cutting-edge environment for this leadership team. Fourteen executive leaders and 75 team members moved from traditional wood-paneled private offices into an open environment that promotes visual access to one another, high performance teamwork, and casual interaction with coworkers and customers.

    • custom-designed and prefabricated elements are tied together with local stone
    • interiors feature utilitarian materials and showcase Herman Miller products
    • in keeping with its rural setting, the yard incorporates elements of farm living
    • the expansion combines Resolve workstations (then a prototype) with an existing product
