Dakota County Wescott Library

    Previous Next
    • the early literacy environment was designed in collaboration with the Children’s Museum
    • Overview

Designed to reflect a community library’s changing service model, this renovation of a county branch library breathes new life into the public areas, adds color and vibrancy to the interior, takes full advantage of natural daylight, and replaces worn and outdated furniture.

MSR was initially hired to prepare a needs assessment to evaluate options for creating flexible space and updating technology and systems throughout the building, prior to providing full design services. We conducted a visioning session with all stakeholders to uncover broad goals for the library and detailed goals for the project.

    • before the renovation of the Dakota County Wescott Library, tall shelves blocked sightlines from the entry
    • the renovation included removing some shelving and reducing shelving heights, which allows for sightlines through the building
    • the service desk is now prominently located at the entry
    • the project also increased the number of computer workstations and access to technology
