    • venetian plaster ceiling planes and wood-framed windows focus on the spectacular views from this riverfront loft
    • Overview

Clean architectural details paired with modern furnishings in this loft space complement the commanding views of downtown Minneapolis and the Mississippi River.

This top floor unit of a new 41-story residential tower was purchased as a partially built-out space. The client wanted more open living space with enhanced river views to allow the city and the river to be a part of the living experience. To achieve this goal, floating Venetian plaster ceiling planes were installed at key view corridors to draw attention to the scenic riverfront vistas. Deep wood frames surround windows and thresholds to bring focus to the views. The original partition walls were removed, leaving only the concrete structural walls to form a simple, open shell. The materials, furnishings, and detailing draw inspiration from the textures, tones, and layering in handmade papers the client procured on a trip to Bhutan.

    • the dining area can expand into the adjacent living space to accommodate larger parties
    • custom millwork continues into the kitchen, keeping with the clean lines found throughout
    • the loft also serves as a gallery for the client’s collection of artwork of the Mississippi River
    • the ceiling planes and framed views continue to the master bedroom, highlighting the spectacular riverfront view
    • the master bath glows with diffuse daylight from the glass wall that separates it from the bedroom
