3M Corporate Headquarters Campus Renovations

    Previous Next
    • campus renovations focus on upgrading aging facilities to better-support research and interaction
    • Overview

MSR has collaborated with 3M Company on several architectural and interior design projects, including a large-scale renovation of the campus quad at 3M’s corporate headquarters. Featured here are renovations of other campus buildings.

Some recent campus renovation projects include a lobby with meeting and social space, lab renovations in multiple buildings, and a long-range study for optimizing lab and office spaces. Renovations reconfigure aging lab and office spaces into more open and efficient layouts; include code, energy, and equipment upgrades; and provide new common areas that encourage team-based research. The design introduces daylight where possible and capitalizes on found space, consolidates resources, and eliminates redundant equipment to optimize outdated workspaces for increased efficiency and interaction.

    • this renovated lobby space complements the modern aesthetic of other recently renovated buildings within the campus quad
    • the upgraded lobby combines casual meeting space and staff break areas, including foosball tables and a gaming room
    • lab renovation projects focus on opening up smaller, compartmentalized labs into larger, consolidated research areas
    • lab renovations also include equipment, ventilation, energy, and code upgrades
    • this optimization study proposes providing better physical and visual connections between spaces, new common and meeting areas, and introducing more daylight
    • the buildings' exteriors will also be refreshed with new materials, more prominent entry points, and landscaping
